All students attending IU Bloomington (EXCEPT students in UNIVERSITY DIVISION, INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND LAW STUDENTS) who wish to withdraw from all classes must do so through our office.
On Campus: If you are on campus, you may come to our office during normal working hours. No appointment is required and the process takes about 5 – 15 minutes. Before automatic W deadline, you have the option of speaking with an advocate. After automatic W deadline, we ask that you speak to an advocate so you can clearly understand the consequences of withdrawing and so we may assist in notifying your instructors, if needed.
Off Campus: If you are away from campus, you may withdraw from all subjects by sending a FAX to 812-855-2259 with a request to withdraw, the reason, your name, address, phone number and your SIGNATURE. Once received, the withdrawal will be processed within 24 hours. A receipt will be sent to the address provided on your request.
If you wish to drop selected courses, but remain enrolled in some of your courses, do not withdraw from all subjects. Please contact your academic advisor for more information about how to drop courses.
Withdrawing from all classes may have consequences on your academic progress, financial aid or scholarship eligibility and other issues related to your student status. For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to speak with an advocate while going through this process. You may do so in person, or by phone if you are not in Bloomington at the time of your withdrawal.
